I tried to eat healthy at home, but once I'm traveling, it's much harder to choose healthy food. You just don't know what goes into your food. For people who are constantly traveling for pleasure, or for job, it's a challenge. Even for families who have regular schedules, it's still harder when parents are working full time, and children are involved with too many activities. Many of us just cut corners when it comes to food choices. So how do we choose healthy food if we're constantly eating out?
Number one, start with a healthy drink. As a beverage choice, ask for water or order fat-free or low-fat milk, unsweetened tea, or other drinks without added sugars. It can also cut down the costs too since water is free. And do you know that restaurants make the most profit from the drinks!
Number two, ask for whole-wheat bread for sandwiches. Don't choose anything that's white, white rice, white bread. Go for the multicolor ones!
Number three, don't take the salad dressings in whole. Ask for it on the side. Salad dressings are high in fat.
Number four, order steamed, grilled, or broiled dishes instead of those that are fried or sautéed.
Lastly, if you can, share your food! Share the plate with your family.
